The Why Behind What You Do

In today’s world we are flooded with information helping us to become better—how to’s for everything in life I suppose, from the best cleaning hacks to the best ways to grow your own wheat grass (if that’s the sort of thing you’re into).

Most of these things I will read/watch, find mildly amusing or interesting, and forget within a week or so. But there’s one that stuck with me I wanted to share with you, my loyal subscribers!

Last year I watched a TED talk by Simon Sinek called Start With Why. For your convenience (and efficiency)! I’ve included the five-minute condensed version here. In a nutshell, the talk focuses on our modern society and how businesses have been programmed to sell their product/service with this model:

First- Here’s what we do

Second- Here’s how we do what we do

WANNA BUY?!?! Let's get started!!!

The idea behind Simon’s talk is that people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it. Sounds simple, right? But there are a lot of people I’m guessing that actually can’t tell you the core “why” they do what they do. So here’s Simon’s suggested change in approach:

First- Here’s WHY we do what we do (insert passion project for me!)

Second- Here’s how we do what we do

Third- Here’s what we do

Simple little change right? Not so much. Wondering where my point is? I’m getting to that:) You see, when I started Food Allergy Partners my WHY I do what I do is what drove me every single day past the doubts and the what if’s. Knowing your purpose and passion can lead you to great things, as is my hope with the people I’m able to help everyday. Most of you know my why, but for those that don't, it's my three year old daughter. She has severe food allergies and makes me want to do more and be more for this community of people everyday.

So find your WHY folks, and let me know if we can help you in better managing your food allergies/intolerances.

Until next time,

Meg
